Letter to Patients
Dear friend,
Thank you for trusting us with your dental care. We know this isn’t just another appointment—choosing a dentist is personal, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is to help you stay healthy, feel comfortable in the chair, and feel confident about your smile.
This practice was built on a simple belief: there’s always a better way to care for patients. Dr. Wilfred Miyasaki has carried that mindset for decades, and it continues to shape the experience patients expect here—gentle, thoughtful, and relationship-based. Today, Dr. David Miyasaki is carrying that legacy forward with a renewed vision: keeping what patients have always valued about this office while continuing to elevate comfort, communication, and modern treatment options.
A big part of our philosophy comes from understanding what it feels like to be the patient. Dr. Wilfred often shares a childhood memory that shaped his approach to dentistry:
“I’m sometimes asked, ‘What made you decide to be a dentist?’ I remember going to the dentist as a child in Waipahu. I ate a lot of candy; I was the candy king. So I had a lot of cavities, and I spent a lot of time at the dentist. I was always afraid to go to the dentist because the drilling was done without Novocaine, so it hurt… I always felt, ‘There’s got to be a better way’.”
That “better way” still guides us—especially for anyone who feels anxious about dental visits. We take comfort seriously: gentle numbing, clear explanations, and a pace that respects you. We also emphasize prevention and long-term planning, so you’re not just getting through today’s visit—you’re protecting your health for the long run.
To keep that promise to patients, we continually invest in advanced training—typically 50 to 300 hours of continuing education each year—so the care you receive reflects today’s best techniques and materials. Dr. David Miyasaki has pursued advanced training through the UCLA School of Dentistry Advanced General Dentistry Residency Program, the California Implant Institute Annual Fellowship, and the AAID MaxiCourse. Dr. Wilfred Miyasaki has completed advanced training at the Pankey Institute of Advanced Dental Education and the Las Vegas Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry.
You’ll also be cared for by a team that shares these same values. Dr. Ju Wu, our associate dentist, practices with the same patient-first philosophy—thoughtful care, honest guidance, and a focus on comfort and service.
Beyond the office, we believe caring for people includes caring for our community. Over the years, Dr. David and Dr. Wilfred have participated in Dentists With A Heart, providing free dental care to people in need for 14 years. We have also volunteered our services to the annual TCOYD (Take Control Of Your Diabetes) Hawaii Conference, where we provided free diabetic health screenings for conference participants. We continue to volunteer with the Hawaii Food Bank during Thanksgiving and Toys for Tots during Christmas.
Here’s what you can expect from us, every time you walk through our doors: you will be listened to, you will be treated with respect, and you will never be rushed into decisions. We will explain what we see, what it means, and what your options are—clearly and honestly. We’ll recommend what we would choose for our own family, and we’ll tailor your care to your needs, your priorities, and your comfort. Our standard is not just good dentistry—it’s an experience that leaves you feeling calm, cared for, and confident about what comes next.
Sincerely,
Dr. David K. Miyasaki, DMD
