Find Treatment for the Different Stages of Gum Disease
If you’re worried that your gums may be inflamed, we examine every patient’s gums at every checkup. When you choose A Downtown Dental Group, you know your health won’t slip through the cracks.
We offer treatment for every stage of gum disease to help you get your smile back. Our caring and talented dental hygienists will work with you to reverse the progression of your gum disease:
- If your gums are simply irritated from plaque buildup, we may only need to perform a deep cleaning procedure.
- For more advanced infections, we can use a soft-tissue laser to remove tissue without the need for gum surgery. The laser allows us to save more of your healthy tissue and lets you recover faster, too.
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. It’s also been linked to a number of other health issues, including diabetes complications, heart disease, kidney disease, strokes, and more. In other words, being proactive about your gums is good for your oral and overall health.
Gum disease manifests in a number of ways. You may notice other symptoms, such as: bleeding gums, gum recession, chronic bad breath, sensitivity to hot or cold foods, or loose teeth.
Common Questions About Nonsurgical Gum Disease Treatment
How long does nonsurgical gum disease treatment take?
For most people, their gum disease treatment will take approximately one hour, about the same length of time as a routine checkup. Our team will clean plaque, tartar, and bacteria from around and beneath your gumline so that your gums can begin to heal. Depending on your circumstances, your treatment may need to be repeated every three or four months.
What is nonsurgical gum disease treatment?
Gum disease treatment is targeted treatment designed to eliminate gum disease from your mouth. At A Downtown Dental Group, we offer two types of gum disease treatment. The first type is deep cleaning using scaling and root planing to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from around your gumline. The second type is laser treatment that painlessly removes damaged gum tissue and seals your gums without any cutting or stitches.
Is gum disease treatment painful?
Your gum disease treatment should be completely comfortable. We’ll numb your gums so you don’t feel any discomfort or pain during your treatment. If you’re nervous about your procedure, we offer two forms of sedation for relaxing care. Choose inhaled sedation using laughing gas or oral conscious sedation with a small pill. If laser treatment is needed, it is a quick and painless method for eliminating infection from your gums.
What are gum disease symptoms?
You may not see the signs of gum disease on your own until its advanced stages, which is why it is often referred to as a silent killer. It’s also why your routine dental exams are so important. The earlier you spot periodontal infection, the easier it is to manage and, in many cases, reverse. Common symptoms to look for include red, swollen, tender, or bleeding gums, loose teeth, and persistent bad breath.
