Prepare for Implant Success With Dental Surgery
When preparing for a tooth replacement like a dental implant, you may need to rely on oral surgery that builds your bone and prepares your jaw for the implant. In addition to strengthening your jaw, we sometimes need to make room in your mouth for implants. We work with a team of specialists who can skillfully perform services such as:
- Bone Grafts – Using bone from your own mouth or another source, we can build up your jawbone to its natural strength.
- Ridge Augmentation – This procedure is often used to rebuild the socket of an extracted tooth to prepare for a future restoration. It can also restore the appearance of your jawline.
- Sinus Lifts – Your sinuses may be very close to the tooth roots in your upper arch. We may need to adjust the sinus cavities before placing a dental implant. We may also add bone material because the upper arch often lacks proper bone density for implants.
Restore Your Smile’s Health & Appearance
Dental surgery is not reserved just for dental implants or preparing for a restoration. Sometimes surgical procedures are required to restore your smile’s health and appearance:
- Gum Grafts – Whether due to heredity, gum disease, or another factor, gum recession can be corrected with gum grafts that replenish your healthy gumline.
- Tooth Removal – A tooth that is severely decayed or infected may need to be removed. Challenging extractions, like wisdom teeth removal, may need to be referred out to an oral surgeon.
You can trust A Downtown Dental Group for safe and gentle oral surgery in Honolulu. Sedation options are available to ensure that you feel complete comfort during your entire experience.
Common Questions About Oral Surgery
How can I prepare for oral surgery?
You’ll need to avoid smoking for at least 12 hours prior to oral surgery (and 24 hours after). We perform many oral surgeries using only local anesthesia. If that’s the case with your procedure, you’ll be able to enjoy a light meal several hours beforehand. We’ll give you more specific instructions. You may want to take off work or school for a day or two, depending on the kind of surgery you receive.
Where can I get oral surgery near me?
Some general dentists offer only the most basic oral surgery, while others don’t perform any surgical procedures. Thanks to the skills and advanced training of our team at A Downtown Dental Group, you’ll find a wide range of oral surgery including tooth removal, bone grafts, gum grafts, sinus lifts, and ridge augmentation.
When can I exercise after surgery?
After your oral surgery, you should not exercise at all for the first 24 hours. Doing too much too soon can increase your healing time. For example, strenuous exercise can loosen the blood clot on an extraction site and cause a painful condition known as dry socket. After the first day, limit your exercise to low-impact activities for several more days to prevent complications.
